“With this season of The Gallery, we’re working with artists to take on the climate crisis, one of the most urgent issues of our time, and they’ve responded with imagination, urgency and nuance. Whether it’s rage, resilience, irony or sorrow, each work offers a distinct perspective that brings us closer to understanding this complex, global challenge. It’s Not Easy Being Green will be displayed on thousands of outdoor billboards and digital screens across the UK and Brazil this autumn as part of the British Council’s UK/Brazil Season of Culture with Instituto Guimarães Rosa.

 

Curated by Bakul Patki, the exhibition will bring an artists’-eye view to the climate crisis debate and will reach millions of people.

 

It’s Not Easy Being Green features works by Justin Brice Guariglia, Ackroyd & Harvey, Ed Hawkins, Muhammad Amdad Hossain, Chris Jordan, Deepak Kathait, Hayden Kays, The Krank, Thiago Rocha Pitta, Yinka Shonibare CBE RA, Arnolt Smead, Uýra Sodoma, Hannah Starkey, Olinda Tupinambá, Venâncio Evensen Ulombe, and Vanessa Wagneur.

 

The commissioned artworks are all part of The Gallery, a cultural institution conceived by Artichoke, in collaboration with public artist Martin Firrell, that aims to challenge traditional models of viewing art, by bringing it to the public. The Gallery is the result of a unique partnership with the UK advertising industry including the industry leaders, Bauer Media Outdoor, JCDecaux and Alight Media.

 

Our mission is to make art accessible through bold and unafraid exhibitions that appear as part of people’s daily lives.
